Na ruim een maand op de vorige game te focussen vind ik het nu tijd om wat kortere games weg te werken.
Q.U.B.E. 2 is een redelijke, enigsinds saaie, entry in het 1st person puzzle genre.

Dit is mijn eerste post in dit topic.
Ik heb gewoon de lijst van vorig jaar door gekopieerd.

Wonder Boy in Monster Land


Combineer Mario met Zelda II en je krijgt zoiets als Wonder Boy in Monster Land.
De game is lineair en bestaat uit twaalf afzonderlijke levels. Onderweg kan je je versterken door sterkere uitrusting te kopen en je zwaard te upgraden door, in sommige gevallen verborgen, bazen te verslaan. Geld is echter schaars dus je moet goed nadenken hoe je het besteedt.

Algeheel een leuke en uitdagende game om te spelen, toch kleven er wel wat nadelen aan deze game:
- Je moet ook betalen voor hints. Aangezien geld schaars is, word je hierdoor sowieso al verplicht om de game meerdere malen te spelen.
- Een soort van tijdslimiet. Rechtsboven in je scherm is een zandlopertje zichtbaar. Steeds als deze leeg is verlies je wat energie. Vooral in het laatste level is dit problematisch aangezien dat veld een groot doolhof is. Ik adviseer daarom ook om bij de waarzegger in het een-na-laatste level de bel te kiezen. Deze zal rinkelen om aan te geven dat je de goede kant op gaat.

The Sims valt natuurlijk onder de categorie games zonder duidelijk einddoel, maar leveren dus één punt na er minimaal 10 uur in te steken zoals aangegeven in de openingspost. Het is echt een verrassend verslavend concept, ondanks dat er ook de nodige herhaling in zit. Waarschijnlijk komt het weer door de mooie balans tussen korte -en lange termijn doelen zoals je ook terugziet in bouw/management sims en 4X strategiegames.

Morgen overigens weer een update van de tussenstand!

Hier gebeurt er momenteel niet superveel met de backlog, met Persona 5 zit ik even in een break en voor de rest ben ik vooral bezig met nieuwe aangekomen games zoals Hotshot Racing en nog steeds ook wat Ninja Saviors tussendoor. En uiteraard mijn MUGEN project ook.

Ik kan wel niet wachten om te beginnen met mijn toekomstige game room, dan zal hier vast wel een boost inzitten dankzij de retrogames.

Zoals TheDarkWanderer zelf al aankondigde heeft hij zijn oude tempo niet kunnen volhouden, maar dat is natuurlijk geen schande. Hij houdt nog altijd een flinke voorsprong op de rest. Shenglong83 heeft met 12 een hele productieve maand achter de rug en lijkt nu de voornaamste uitdager van de koploper. Verder lijkt het alsof er ook een gat begint te staan tussen de subtop en de middenmoot, maar vier punten is natuurlijk vrij rap ingehaald. Iedereen heel veel succes met de overige drie kwart van het backlogjaar.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!



Ik heb redelijk wat negatieve verhalen over deze game gehoord, maar hij viel me reuze mee.
Zolang je je verwachtingen in toom houdt - het is een remake van de allereerste Pokemon games, niks meer, niks minder - is het prima.
Verder zijn de grootste verschillen:
1. de bedoelde integratie met Pokémon Go (dat heb ik volledig genegeerd)
en 2 Het ontbreken van random battles. In plaats daarvan zie je de Pokémon lopen (zoals in Sword/Shield) en i.p.v. ze te battlen gooi je er Pokeballs naar (wederom ala Pokémon Go)

Veder zijn er wat kleine verschillen in items (ik miste bijvoorbeeld de Moonstone in Mt. Moon voor een vroege Nidoking) en Pokémon op andere plaatsen. Maakt verder weinig uit, want zoals in zoveel Pokemon games kun je 95% met je starter steamrollen.

Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap



Toffe game!
Het spel begint waar Wonder Boy in Monster Land eindigt, echter wordt Wonder Boy vervloekt door de Mecha Dragon en verandert hij in een Lizard-Man. Gaandeweg het avontuur zal je in andere vormen kunnen veranderen (Mouse, Piranha, Lion en Hawk) met elk hun unieke eigenschappen. Die eigenschappen zorgen er uiteraard voor dat je op plekken kan komen die eerst ontoegankelijk voor je waren.

Er is ook een arsenaal aan verschillende zwaarden, schilden en armor te koop. Sommige hiervan hebben speciale eigenschappen.
Enkele hiervan liggen redelijk voor de hand, bij andere heb ik later op internet gelezen. Wat dat betreft had de game wel wat voordeel gehad als er wat NPC's in de wereld aanwezig waren die wat hints gaven (zoals in het voorgaande deel). Dat de pauze-knop op de console zit (what were they thinking?) is ook irritant maar dat is de game niet aan te rekenen.

Ondanks deze kleine aanmerkingen vanaf nu waarschijnlijk mijn favoriete Master System game

Café Enchanté voor Switch


Als een game met koffie te maken heeft dan ben ik a priori geinteresseerd om het eens te proberen, en Café Enchanté verleidde mij met het idee dat je een vrouw speelt die een koffie-café erft van haar opa en dat zij allerlei klanten uit fantasierijke dimensies op bezoek krijgt (denk aan een 'demon king', 'fallen angel', 'elven knight' en meer) die vredig interactie hebben onder het genot van allerlei op koffie gebaseerde drankjes en versnaperingen. Al snel krijgt het plot een hele andere wending en begeef je je in die fantasierijke dimensies en speel je een sleutelrol in het oplossen van de grote existentiële conflicten die zich daarbinnen afspelen.

Al met al voldeed het niet aan mijn verwachtingen maar heb ik me ook zeker niet verveeld, het genre is het zogenaamde 'otome visual novel' wat erop neerkomt dat het een mate van romantiek kent en dat de doelgroep vrouwen zijn maar bij Café Enchanté ligt dat er niet heel dik bovenop. De route die ik heb gespeeld is de 'Canus route' waarbij het verhaal zich op een gegeven moment focust op de mooie fleurige wereld waarin elven wonen, maar niets is wat het lijkt.. ik heb er denk ik zo'n 25 uur over gedaan over de periode van 4 maanden. Of ik de andere routes ga spelen weet ik nog niet omdat ik nog zat andere games heb om te spelen, maar ik zou deze game best eens op een vakantie mee kunnen nemen bijvoorbeeld.
